Endorsements
I believe the only way to make impactful change on campus is through collaboration and unity. I've spent the past few weeks meeting with different communities and student leaders on campus and I'm proud to share that I've been endorsed by these amazing organizations as your Student Body Presidential Candidate.
Black Student Union would like to formally endorse Shane Knopp’s run for President. There is no better candidate for this position who is as invested in the future progress of Colgate and the betterment of its students. There is no doubt that Shane understands the magnitude of being elected as Student Body President for the upcoming year. As leader, he will play a pivotal role in enacting positive change on campus that will greatly benefit the student body.
Both prior and during this election period, Shane has demonstrated that he is up to the task. He has actively participated in events meant to bring further equity to the broader populus. Not only does he advocate for increasing accessibility pertaining to meal programs and disability services, but Shane also takes the initiative to mend the group divides on campus. Shane is particularly attentive to the multicultural dynamics on this campus as he has illustrated on multiple occasions though taking part in conversations with cultural communities and supporting Black Student Union events as exemplified during the Annual POC Formal held in February. Black Student Union believes that Shane will be the best candidate to build unity between Greek Life and other student organizations while fostering important discussions around social disparities faced across the student body. His platforms on equity and cultivating student relations from developing food pantries and no-swipe hours to bridging social gaps and providing accessible storage options for all students will foster a more secure and happy campus environment. Shane’s background in programming for the Student Activities Association and his time serving as the Class Council Director demonstrate that he is qualified for the job.
Shane’s care for the wellbeing of both the campus and all of its students beyond their identifications and interests makes Black Student Union believe that he is the ideal person for this position. With this in mind, Black Student Union would like to officially endorse Shane Knopp for Student Body President.
Sincerely,
Black Student Union

We are confident that Brothers will thrive in a Knopp-led SGA and that we can work together alongside other campus leaders to make Colgate a home for everyone. Shane’s proven track record of delivering on student promises in SGA reassures us about giving him our complete trust and support.
The Colgate Global Health Coalition endorses Shane Knopp for SGA president. We look forward to collaborating on programs that address social determinates of health on Campus, specifically Shane’s focus on food insecurity. We hope to develop initiatives that improve Colgate Student’s access to equitable healthcare and collaborate with the greater Hamilton community in addressing public health issues.
As a Coalition, we believe that Shane’s leadership will help the Colgate community come together and address issues affecting the student population. Our organization is built upon principles of inclusion and Shane’s dedication to bringing together different communities on campus speaks to our mission and work. Shane’s platform further encompasses all aspects of our mission of education, service, and community. This endorsement reflects the alignment of values between CGHC’s guiding principles and Shane’s platform. As an executive team, we believe that this partnership will elevate the work we can accomplish as an organization and we are excited to imagine the expanding involvement and partnership of other organizations and the greater student body in helping us accomplish our goals.
We at CSSC believe that as SGA President, Shane would support all students here at Colgate and make our campus a more equitable, inclusive, and connected community. As the Treasurer of our organization this past year, Shane went above and beyond in his role by organizing the budgeting for all our trips, as well as verifying the rosters and organizing events with other student organizations. He has been invaluable to the experiences of hundreds of students in our organization and his dedication to CSSC is a perfect representation of the dedication he will have to the Colgate student body as SGA President. Shane’s role in CSSC shows his capabilities as a leader and organizer, but beyond these skills, Shane always puts others first and constantly strives for member input on the functioning of our organization. This is clearly evident through his three platforms: equity, student relationships and events. At CSSC, we think that Shane’s equity and events platforms can especially assist our club’s future goals and align well with our emphasis on equity and inclusivity in winter sports. As a non-GLO organization, by streamlining the event approval process, we would be able to host social events for our club, allowing our members to interact and meet each other outside of ski trips. Also, making it easier to learn about CSSC events through a central platform would be extremely beneficial and allow us to introduce more students on campus to the opportunities offered by our club. Shane’s focus on collaboration, communication and equity alongside his integrity, dedication and dependability make him the perfect and best candidate for the presidency and we, the leaders of CSSC, fully endorse him.
The Organization of Asian Sisters in Solidarity+ would like to endorse Shane Knopp as SGA president for the 2022-2023 academic year. We believe that his initiatives towards food insecurity, accessibility awareness, and social hosting would enhance the student body experience for not only Asian identifying students, but also the general campus community. His initiatives towards more streamlined social hosting on campus would allow for multicultural organizations, such as OASIS+, to strengthen not only Asian and non-Asian student unity on campus, but also further promote cultural awareness. Additionally, OASIS+ aligns with Shane Knopp’s goals towards campus unity and sustainability. We are especially supportive of his initiatives towards no swipe hours at Colgate dining facilities, as this would combat food insecurity and help students who struggle with accessing meals on campus. We believe that Shane Knopp is an exceptionally qualified candidate who will advocate for building solidarity and promoting positive change on Colgate’s campus in the 2022-2023 academic year.
Progress Period would like to officially endorse Shane Knopp as our preferred SGA presidential candidate for the upcoming academic year. We are pleased with his platform’s focus on sustainability, equity in regards to food security, and its recognition of Colgate’s deficit in accessible building construction. We regard these measures as helpful for furthering the health and wellbeing of all members of the Colgate community. As an organization that prides itself in recognizing the health needs of all menstruators, we support the advancement of health advocacy as promised in Mr. Knopp’s platform. In the upcoming academic year, we are looking forward to seeing the improvement of health initiatives on campus. Progress Period is particularly pleased with his proposal to develop an online platform to streamline the advertising of upcoming events as it will facilitate our organization’s mission by encouraging member participation. Lastly, we thank SGA presidential candidate Shane Knopp for reaching out to our organization as a resource and advocate.
Upon making himself available to meet with QTPOC (Queer, Trans, People of Color) Core, Shane Knopp was upfront, honest, and welcoming. Shane answered all of our questions patiently in the best way he knew how. These important qualities are needed for a SGA president, however, this was not the only aspect that drew QTPOC to Shane. Shane’s platforms help with QTPOC’s overall mission of helping QTPOC reclaim both its queer and racial spaces on campus while allowing QTPOC members to freely and safely express and discuss their queer and racial identities. One way we see Shane helping QTPOC is through his accessible promotion platform that will allow QTPOC to have a way to reach a larger audience instead of having to spread events through word of mouth. This allows us to reclaim space on Colgate by making sure more of our queer, poc peers are made aware of the variety of events made for them. QTPOC is also excited to see a candidate rooting to make social hosting available to all and not just GLOs. This, once again, promotes inclusivity and safety for the QTPOC community to go into spaces designated and catered to their intersecting identities. Shane also aims to address food insecurity through cost-free initiatives available to all of Colgate, which echoes a concern many QTPOC members have expressed. In conclusion, Shane’s emphasis on inclusivity and equitability target communities QTPOC is already a part of and we are excited to endorse Shane on his journey to becoming a SGA President.
Colgate’s Women in Computer Science Club would like to officially endorse Shane Knopp '23 in the 2022 SGA Presidential Election. With past experience as SGA Parliamentarian, SAA Board & Class Council Director, SGA Sustainability Coordinator, and Ski and Snowboard Club Treasurer, Shane has demonstrated an authentic passion for our Colgate Community, the ability to collaborate with a variety of organizations, and the initiative needed to effect positive change.
His dedication to campus unity is especially important to WiCS. With his willingness to work with all groups on campus and his goals to standardize the event approval process and designate a Greek Life Liaison to SGA to bridge the gap between student organizations and GLOs, Shane will foster an accepting, equitable, and supportive campus to bring students of diverse backgrounds and identities together.
Shane is also passionate about sustainability, increasing accessibility to information, increasing physical and intellectual accessibility in the classroom, and combating food insecurity. In particular, he aims to expand and increase the reliability of wellness-specific cruiser schedules, develop cost-free options available to students including food pantries and no-swipe hours, establish an accessible and easy to navigate central platform containing information on upcoming events, increase recycle and reuse across campus, reduce food waste through a food recovery system, and increase accessibility of summer storage to eliminate seasonal waste.
